This is your excuse to ‘cave-in’ and try a Terrain 5 geocache!

Headlamps, rope, and climbing gear are what you’ll need for a successful geocache find in the limestone caves beneath the Mediterranean island of Mallorca – but there’s a twist. There’s a rumor of a lady in these caves, and if you spot her, she’ll give you profound insights into the caves in which she resides.

Mallorca is an island full of discovery, great food, and home to some serious geocaching activity. Whether it’s sea cliffs, caves, or rock climbing, there’s always something around the corner that taps into adventure. This week, the focal point of Mallorca is DSOM – Señora Na Mitjana (GC26W07).

Nestled deep in the eastern caves of the island, a very hard-to-reach lock-n-lock exists, but not without some effort by those brave enough to travel underground in pursuit of this geocache. The entrance to the cave sets a good tone for expectations; an otherwise unassuming hole in the ground near some cliffs and surrounded by seagrass.

Before entering the cave, it’s time to gear up. Some items listed on the cache page that are necessary to make it to the cache are:

• 10 meters of climbing rope
• Climbing gear
• Helmet
• Flashlights with extra batteries

The journey to the cache is not for the claustrophobic, as you’re required to squeeze through rock tunnels and belay down further into the cave. Eventually reaching a room in the tunnel, the search begins for the cache. Looking between stalactites and stalagmites, a nook in the rock big enough for one person to nestle into is a key indicator for the cache. There, the lock-n-lock container hidden by Pullermann & Tossiman rests, and where you might meet the lady of the cave to learn her secrets (the hiding place for the cache, perhaps?).

This is a natural point to celebrate the find after securing it, but there’s still a long journey back to the surface, in which case, there may be some delayed gratification until everyone’s back to safe ground.
