What’s more thrilling than commemorating a “first” of something? The first geocaching Event, the first EarthCache, or even the first cache in a country. Today, we are celebrating just that!

Get your GPS devices ready because we’re returning to 2001 to honor the Geocache of the Week and Spain’s first geocache, Montserrat (GC2D4)!

This geocache is named Montserrat (jagged mountain) after the stunning mountains in Cataluña. This area offers breathtaking hikes and views visible from great distances of the surrounding terrain making for an epic location to hide a geocache.

Listed at a 3.5 Terrain, it requires some climbing and will take two or more hours to reach the final location, so carve out an afternoon for this adventure.

The CO, comellas recommends starting this excursion from “Can Massana,” where you can easily park your car. To reach the cache container, geocachers must climb and hike through tight rocky passages that may require using hands and feet. It’s important to note that this journey involves some challenging terrain, so wearing appropriate footwear and packing plenty of water is highly encouraged. This journey is worth the fantastic view at the end, as it’s one of the finest in the region.

After a long hike through different terrain and viewpoints, it’s time to search for the geocache. This historic geocache is a small white plastic container nestled gently under a marked stone. The CO has left a clue about where to look on the cache page.
