Nestled outside of busy Toronto, there is a special geocache that ticks several boxes: charming, unique, and bold!
Hidden in plain sight on Toronto’s Ward’s Island, this cache invites you into a world of color, creativity, and community spirit. Geocaching is anything but mundane, and this Geocache of the Week, Bridge Boutique (GCXCEX), is no exception!
Arched over one of Ontario’s few pedestrian-only residential islands, you’ll find the Algonquin bridge, which transcends into a quaint getaway atmosphere upon crossing over to Ward’s Island—a nice change from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Immediately, this bold and enchanting geocache grabs explorers’ attention, and is perfect for those looking to get lost in an experience.
Much larger than the average cache, this beautiful centerpiece is not camouflaged, instead catches the eye of passersbys. After all, it’s not every day that you come by a hut stocked with memorabilia, endless amounts of books, and so much more!

The structure became a popular attraction on the island, attracting trades from both geocachers and non-geocachers.
The only rule, trade up or even, which the community has fully embraced—all are welcome to participate, and there is always a rotating assortment of interesting items.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and those who are attracted by what they see stored inside these four invisible walls easily get lost in the character of all the different treasures.
This cache definitely takes SWAG to the next level. A very fitting name, Bridge Boutique has something of interest for everyone.

It’s clear the owner, Adventure.AS, put this cache together with love. When asked about what inspired them to create this unique cache, they responded:
“At the intersection of the Algonquin Bridge and Omaha Ave, the local people had a ‘virtual’ boutique where they would post items to sell or trade on the electric pole. As there were no more virtual geocaches at the time of making this geocache, it seemed like an ideal location for a physical geocache. With the approval and help of the late Albert Fulton (the Toronto Island Archivist), this ‘virtual’ tradition of the locals was embraced and a large physical ‘boutique’ was created that is the geocache.”
Surprisingly, the cache owner built this cache in a matter of days with Fulton’s assistance.”

Adventure.AS started geocaching in 2006 and bought a GPSr for their sailboat and was looking for more ways to put it to use, which led to the magic of geocaching.
Their desire to share unique locations became the reason they contribute such complex caches—a welcome motive and definite achievement!
